My Thoughts on ControlJan 31, 2022
“Be in control of your body, not at it's mercy"
~ Joseph Pilates
This next concept is said so often in such a variety of different ways that I couldn't decided on one person to quote.
So here's the thought in my words:
You cannot control what the world brings to you, but you can control your reactions.
You cannot control other peoples actions, but you can control how you react to them.
There are so many ways to say this, but you get the main idea!
"You control the springs, the springs don't control you!"
I say this all the time when teaching. Resisting the springs is what takes your Pilates workout to the next level!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of my favorite things to do is see how I can take Pilates concepts and translate them to my life outside the Pilates studio. It's so easy as a working mom and wife to feel that all our time is planned out for us, but we are the ones who say YES to ALL THE THINGS.
In this season of my life, it often feels like everyone is standing in line to pile more things on my "plate". If I don't resist some of these, my plate will overflow and I will not be able to help anyone, including myself!
So think about those springs again. If you don't resist them, you will not get as much out of your session and your Pilates practice. If you don't resist some of the tasks being piled on your "plate", you will not be able to grow and thrive! What do you think? Does this analogy make sense for you?
